Brevo Email Templates: Design Beautiful Campaigns

Discover how to use Brevo's drag-and-drop email templates to create stunning campaigns that convert and engage your subscribers effectively.

A well-designed email does more than look good — it communicates trust, reinforces your brand, and guides the reader toward the action you want them to take. Brevo gives you a professional template library, a powerful drag-and-drop editor, and the tools to make every email look intentional and polished. Here is how to use them to their full potential.

The Brevo Template Library

Start by navigating to Campaigns → Email Campaigns → Create Email Campaign and choosing the design step. Brevo presents you with a library of over 40 professionally designed templates organised by use case:

  • Newsletter — Multi-section layouts for content-heavy sends
  • Promotional — Hero image + offer + CTA structure for sales and launches
  • Transactional — Clean, functional layouts for order confirmations and receipts
  • Welcome — First-impression templates designed to onboard new subscribers
  • Event — Date-focused layouts for webinars, conferences, and live events
  • Seasonal — Holiday-themed designs for seasonal promotions

Each template is fully responsive — it automatically adapts its layout for mobile screens, which account for over 60% of email opens in 2026.

Navigating the Drag-and-Drop Editor

After selecting a template (or choosing "blank"), you enter the Brevo email editor. The interface has three main panels:

Left Panel — Content Blocks This is your toolbox. Drag any of these blocks onto your canvas:

  • Text — Rich text with full formatting controls
  • Image — Upload your own or browse the built-in image library
  • Button — Clickable CTA with customizable colour, border, and link
  • Divider — Visual separators between sections
  • Spacer — Add breathing room between blocks
  • Social — Icons linked to your social profiles
  • HTML — Raw HTML for custom code blocks
  • Video — Thumbnail linked to an external video

Centre Panel — Canvas This is your email layout. Click any block to select it, drag blocks to rearrange them, and drop new blocks from the left panel into position.

Right Panel — Style Controls When a block is selected, the right panel shows all its style options: font family, font size, colour, padding, alignment, border, and more. When no block is selected, this panel shows global email settings like background colour and maximum width.

Customising Brevo Templates

Updating Colours and Brand Identity

The first thing to do with any template is replace the placeholder colours with your brand palette. Click on a coloured element — a button, a header background, a text block — and update it to your brand colour in the right panel.

For consistency, set your global background colour first. Click outside any block to see the global settings panel, then adjust the email background and content area background colours.

Typography

Brevo supports web-safe fonts (Arial, Georgia, Verdana, Trebuchet MS) that render reliably across every email client. It also supports Google Fonts for clients that support them, with web-safe fallbacks for clients that do not.

Keep your font choices simple: one font for headings, one for body text. Avoid using more than two different fonts in a single email. Recommended body font size is 15-17px for readability.

Replacing Images

Click any image block to replace the placeholder image. You can:

  • Upload from your computer
  • Browse Brevo's built-in stock photo library
  • Enter a URL to an externally hosted image

Always set descriptive alt text for every image. Alt text displays when images are blocked (which many email clients do by default) and is critical for accessibility.

Image best practices:

  • Use JPEG for photographs, PNG for graphics with transparency
  • Optimise file size before uploading — aim for under 200KB per image
  • Use a minimum width of 600px for images spanning the full email width
  • Avoid image-only emails — always include text content

Buttons and CTAs

Every email should have one primary call-to-action. Click on any button block to customise:

  • Button text (keep it action-oriented: "Get Started", "Claim Offer", "Read More")
  • Link URL
  • Background colour and text colour
  • Padding and border radius
  • Width (auto-fit to text or set a specific pixel width)

For mobile, make sure buttons are at least 44px tall so they are easy to tap with a finger.

Building Mobile-Optimised Emails

Brevo's editor includes a mobile preview toggle in the top toolbar. Always check the mobile view before sending. Common issues to watch for:

Single column on mobile — Multi-column desktop layouts should stack into a single column on mobile. Brevo handles this automatically for its standard two-column blocks.

Font size — Body text should be at least 14px on mobile. Brevo lets you set separate mobile font sizes.

Button width — Consider making buttons full-width on mobile for easier tapping.

Image sizing — Images should be set to "100% width" on mobile to fill the screen.

Spacing — Reduce padding between sections on mobile to keep the email from feeling too long.

Saving Custom Templates

Once you have built a layout you love, save it as a template so you can reuse it for future campaigns. In the editor, click Save as template from the three-dot menu or the top toolbar. Give it a descriptive name like "Weekly Newsletter — Standard" or "Promo Blast — Minimal."

Your saved templates appear under My Templates in the template selection screen. This allows you to maintain consistent branding across every campaign without rebuilding from scratch each time.

Email Design Best Practices

Keep it focused. Every email should have one clear goal. Multiple competing messages dilute your click rate. If you have two announcements, send two emails.

Lead with value. The first fold (the visible portion before scrolling) should communicate who you are, what this email is about, and why it matters — in 2-3 seconds.

Use whitespace generously. Cramped emails feel overwhelming. Generous padding around text and images makes your email easier to scan.

Stick to one primary CTA. Multiple buttons with different destinations split your readers' attention. If you must include secondary links, make them visually distinct and lower on the page.

Test across clients. Different email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, mobile Gmail) render CSS differently. If Outlook rendering is important to you, test carefully — Outlook uses Microsoft Word's rendering engine, which does not support many modern CSS properties.

Check your spam score. Brevo includes a built-in spam check you can run before sending. It scores your email across multiple spam filter criteria and flags specific issues you can fix.
